short film

Hi, this message is going out to anybody who would be interested in taking part in shooting an incredibly super low-to-no budget short 10 minute horror film.

We already have a few people interested. We have some actors, a clothes designer and 2 directors!

We have a script, which is a short, unique gothic story which can be shot in local surroundings very cheap.

We intend to shoot it on DV and enter it into film festivals with hopes of getting production companies interested in our style, ideas etc. We have quite a few other scripts which will need quite large budgets, hence the need to entice larger production companies. (They generally don't take people seriously who have never actually made films, so we are now taking the plunge).

We need people who have their own equipment - DV cam, tripid, DAT recorder etc.

We have a few lights, a computer and relevent software to a semi-pro standard.

We would like someone who knows a great deal about prosthetic special effects. We would also like someone with a band who would be interested in doing a short film score.

We would like anyone enthusiastic about working on the film, training or not.

Sadly we can't pay anyone. We can however, offer everyone who works on the movie the opportunity of a job on a paid feature in the future if we manage to secure a deal with a production company.

The film is being shot in South Yorkshire - UK. It will probably be about spring time 2006. It should be about two or three days shooting.

LOL - so you basically want everything except a script-writer and an editor? [img]tongue.gif[/img] Thats asking quite a lot, especially for a no-budget picture.

Wouldn't it be great to try and nail things like prosphetics yourself? That is of course if you wish to pursue film-making further. It'll build your experience.

Also - are you sure you can't get a camera? Do you not know anyone - even with a DV camcorder?

If all else fails I suggest you post asking for the things you require at these two places...

Thanks for the reply. Yep I really am looking for everything, crazy isn't it.

I probably could get access to some sort of DV cam, but I'm really looking for someone who has access to a professional style, 3 CCD camera with a good lens. This type of camera can be expensive to rent.

Costs are already soaring on this production through the rental of a power generator, transport etc.

I have a huge interest in special effects, especially prosthetic, I even dabbled in it at college, years back, however, I am in no way a sculptural artist. Any prosthetics I would create would probably turn out looking like something from the Thing!

I am concentrating on digital effects, composting, 3D design etc.

We've already had a great amount of feedback in the local area, and it's enthusiastic people we need the most. We always enjoy working with others who have a passion for movies.

We made a few films back at University but they're nothing compared to making your own film from your own ideas, which you yourself are putting together.

Hey Generic skinhead I really liked the idea for your short movie - 'ten' - pretty original.

It seems that some of the members here are film makers. Perhaps you would have some useful tips or advice for me. Embarking on a first movie can be daunting.

Yeah, if you have any specific questions, there are people on here who can help.

My tip is to work the script till its the best it can be. Try and get feedback from film writers and makers- no disrespect to your mates or family but they're not going to be able to tell you what you NEED to hear.

The only part of film that doesn't cost a lot is the script. Make sure its tight.

Yeah I agree a good script is essential for a good film. I went to Uni to study screenwriting and it's the one element of film making that I'm one hundred percent confident about.

I used to run my own business but it went bankrupt and left me in a ton of debt, hence why I have a cash flow problem and am looking for pretty much everything for the production of this movie.

But I'm not going to let a little thing like a money problem stop me from making this movie - I love a challenge.

Perhaps some of the film makers could share some anecdotes, or useful advice? Generally tips on what mistakes not to make would be useful, or perhaps tips on cinematography, editing, casting and rehersals etc; and of course distribution would be great.

Well, just make a few 2 or 3 minute shorts, or even shorter, to practise a bit with camera positions, working with actors and making a short in general.

No one can make their first movie a great one.

I've been reading some other posts and noted that Christian Marcussen is a music dude. I've been trying to complete the music for my short film however, I am kind of stone deaf when it comes to music (B-flat?)

Would you consider helping out with this short film? Sadly can't pay anyone. To pay people means it would turn into a legit business, plc etc, tax forms - whooo head ache central.

I could offer you the possibility of working with us on further movies if we manage to get a contract out of this movie to make further movies. I've got some pretty good scripts which I'm wanting to run by film companies, however, having a short to screen is a good way to get the foot in the door.

Anyway, the music for this short is eerie. The movie is about a modern day Babylonian influenced cult, and they need a chant - with bongos and possibly some orchestral strands? Lyrics as well.

I've been doing research into real chants etc, and have some good ideas what I want, but putting it into production is proving useful.
